Smart Card adalah suatu kartu yang memiliki chip dan memory sendiri. Smart card tersebut dapat digunakan untuk berbagai macam industri. Apakah itu loyalty program, membership card, student card, library card, payment voucher, access security, etc. Kenapa menggunakan smart card dan bukan kartu jenis lain? Karena ada beberapa alasan seperti keamanan, durable, compatibility, pricing, dan effectivity.

Ada beberapa jenis smart card yang ada. Smart card memory, smart card MCU, dan contactless smart card. Perbedaannya adalah memory smart card dapat digunakan untuk menyimpan data penting seperti biodata atau nilai voucher. MCU dapat diisikan perintah penting yang nantinya akan diproses didalam kartu dan mengembalikan suatu value yg diinginkan, dengan kata lain kartu ini dapat di program sebelumnya. Tetapi selain itu data penting yg dapat diisikan di memory smart card juga dapat dimasukkan kedalam MCU Smart card ini. Contactless smart card adalah kartu smart card yang menggunakan gelombang radio untuk mengirimkan data kepada readernya.

Reader untuk smart card juga tergantung dari keinginan dan kartunya. Reader berfungsi sebagai read and write device tuk smart card. Ada beberapa tipe yang dapat dikategorikan contact smart card reader, contactless smart card reader, dan mobile smart card reader. Contact smart card reader memiliki beberapa jenis juga seperti conventional reader, keyboard attached reader, fingerprint smart card reader, credit balance reader, etc. Contactless smart card reader juga disediakan dalam bentuk molded atau dalam bentuk komponen. Mobile smart card reader memiliki variasi yang dapat diupgrade dari versi standard menjadi ditambah dengan fingerprint scanner atau ditambah dengan contactless smart card reader.

Siapa aja sih yang udah menggunakan Smart Card reader ini? Negara tetangga kita udah menggunakan smart card kita ini untuk KTP nya. Jadi di dalam KTP tersebut dapat diisikan SIM, Passport, Nomer Asuransi, Kartu ATM, Credit Card, nomer pasien rumah sakit, etc. Bukankah hal itu menjadi sangat gampang? Daripada membawa banyak kartu di dalam dompet. Dari sisi keamanan sudah tidak diragukan lagi karena telah banyak sistem keuangan atau authentikasi yang menggunakan smart card sebagai medianya.

Ada dua tipe smart card pada umumnya. Contact Smart Card dan Contactless Smart Card. Tetapi sekarang dengan perkembangan technology, Smart Card memiliki 1 jenis baru lagi. Yaitu tipe Hybrid / Combo / Dual Interface Smart Card. Yang artinya adalah pada satu kartu tetapi dapat digunakan untuk contact ataupun contactless. Tetapi sebenarnya ada 1 hal yang membedakan kartu jenis baru ini. Yaitu apakah 1 kartu dengan 2 chip ( Contact + Contactless) , atau 1 kartu dengan 1 chip ( Contact & Contactless) .

Apakah perbedaannya?
Kartu hybrid / combo adalah sebuah kartu yang memiliki 2 chip Smart Card didalamnya. Yaitu chip contact smart card dan chip contactless smart card. Jadi pada saat memasukkan kartu ke dalam contact smart card reader, maka yang terbaca hanyalah chip contact smart card. Dan pada saat diakses melalui contactless smart card reader, maka yang terdeteksi hanyalah chip contactless smart card. Keunggulannya adalah kapasitas penyimpanan ada 2 dan terpisah.

Kartu dual interface adalah sebuah kartu yang memiliki 1 chip yang dapat berfungsi contact dan contactless didalamnya. Dengan menggunakan smart card reader dual mode yang memiliki reader untuk smart card dan contactless dapat digunakan untuk mengakses kartu tersebut. Keunggulan dari kartu ini adalah tingkat keamanan dari kartu sangat bagus, melebihi kartu hybrid di kedua interfacenya.

Aplikasi yang dapat dibuat menggunakan jenis kartu seperti ini adalah aplikasi yang membutuhkan tingkat keamanan yang sangat tinggi dan juga aplikasi yang membutuhkan dual fungsi untuk penggunanya.

The EVD 3000 is a flexible and easy to operate portable hand held explosives detector, capable of both vapour and particulate sampling, which does not use a radioactive source or any consumables.
Vapours are sampled directly by vacuum into the sampling nozzle.
Particulates are sampled by swiping a suspected object with cotton gloves and then transferring the traces to a screen which is inserted into the sampling port.
